Bethel was organized as a church in 1992. Previous to that, our members attended other Reformed churches in the city, but in some of those churches there was a noticeable movement away from Biblical and Confessional orthodoxy. The authority of the Bible was questioned and compromised on a number of issues such as Creation, ordination to office, and sexual morality. For these and other weighty reasons, members left those churches to form a new church - one that would humbly submit itself to the authority of the Bible and staunchly uphold and defend our Reformed Creeds and Confessions (see 'What We Believe' to read more about our Creeds and Confessions).
At the outset, Bethel did not have its own church building. For a number of years, our Sunday worship services were held at various locations throughout Northwest Calgary. Then in 1997, a parcel of land was purchased at the corner of Old Banff Coach Road and 101 Street SW. That is when plans were made to build our own church building. Construction of the new facilities commenced in 1999. Many dedicated volunteer workers readily donated their time and several generous donors made significant gifts of materials which allowed the project to be completed in approximately two years. With thanks and praise to God for His great faithfulness and ascribing all glory to Him, our church building was dedicated on January 25, 2002.
